Beyond the Everyday: Makeup in Film at Full Sail

I wear makeup nearly every day– I think of my face as a forgiving canvas and it’s hard for me to resist the urge to paint every day. Though I have been known to bring the drama, my general personal style features a more natural face look. Being a makeup artist is one of the ways that I really get to express my creativity– working with different faces to create a variety of looks is always exciting.

I graduated from Full Sail University in 2009 as a Digital Arts and Design major. We did it all– from web design to graphic design to videography. The school has always had a focus on creating artists who would be able to go forth and have knowledge of every aspect of their industry. But we never tackled anything like what is happening in the film program. This video covers the Film Makeup class and has me itching to go back to school.

Mother’s Day: Not Just Once A Year

Mother’s Day was officially 2 Sundays ago but do you know what? I don’t care. My mother, Kyle, who I’ve told you about before, is MY GIRL and deserves more than one day. Besides, I’m just getting over being deathly ill and she was out of town– because that’s what badass mothers of grown children do.

My sister, Kendra and I have a hilarious relationship with our mother. She is, without a doubt, the boss of our family and according to my sister, the ambassador of a lifestyle and a forthcoming book, called Growing Up Grinnage.

My mother, my statuesque "little" sister, Kendra and me at Disney World, circa 2003.

Kendra is a hilarious writer and the following is part of an extraordinary speech she made at a Mother/Daughter tea. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Met Gala 2015: Skin is In?

On Monday, the fashion, music and Hollywood elite, got together and threw themselves a little party. The Met Gala, as this little soiree is known, is referred to as “The Oscars of Fashion” and is the annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. If you’ve ever wanted to get a teensy bit outrageous with your sartorial choices, damnit, this is the night to do it! And this year, three of today’s biggest celebs decided that they were going to basically wear the outfit they were born in– their birthday suit. Skin was ALL THE WAY in at the 2015 Met Gala.

On Mondays, we go naked. Met Gala: Skin is in?

Did You Go Lilly for Target CRAZY?

Let's get #LillyCrazy!

Lilly-mania has come and gone. Well, it kind of had to; the widely-anticipated Lilly Pulitzer collaboration with Target sold out in mere MINUTES. Target has set a high standard with their previous designer collaborations: I started paying attention during the Isaac Mizrahi for Target years (one of my favorite dresses of all time is from this line, a line that shuttered in 2008!) and since, I have snagged amazing pieces from Missoni, the CFDA/Neiman Marcus collection, Thakoon and Proenza Schouler.

But Lilly. Oh, that Lilly Pulitzer! The furor! The (hilarious) outrage! Lilly Pulitzer, the late design queen of Palm Beach ladies who lunch, found her way into arms and shopping carts of women everywhere Sunday morning. Or at least, she was supposed to. The eagerly anticipated collection appeared online, had the Target site going kablooey by 3am and was entirely gone by 10am.

This was the scene in good old Richmond, VA:
